This (Fjord) Horse Dictionary developed since the year 2000 as a spin- off (by- product) from the ‘Lists of Terminology’ in ‘The Official Handbook for Fjord Horse Judges’ of FHI.
The arrangement and completion of some small bilingual collections of terms in German/ English, German/ French and German/ Norwegian developed spontaneously and without an encyclopaedic background or claiming to linguistic exactness.
Necessary translations into one of the five offered languages were done by linguistically proficient ‘horse people’ and not philologists, but with much engagement and enthusiasm. Acting like this surely some spelling and grammar mistakes crept in, for which we apologize to the finders and ask them politely for correction. With the help of the users mistakes can be taken out, missing translations can be inserted and new terms can be added or asked to be searched for. We will be thankful for every suggestion for an improvement of this dictionary. However we must confine to horse specific terms. For the general use of languages there are printed dictionaries in every language combination in bookshops for sale.
In work are an additional collection of horse related veterinary terms and a collection of terms around driving.
Fjord Horse International on behalf of all users is very thankful to all involved horse friends, who dedicated their time to this dictionary, now and in future.
