Oct 4th – Oct 6th 2002 in Switzerland.
Recapitulation
In May 2002 on occasion of the Breeders Conference in Norway a first print of the Official Handbook for Fjord Horse Judges was presented to Norges Fjordhestlag and the international Fjord Horse Breeding Associations, and they were asked to send in their commentaries until July 1rst 2002. Up to this date only verbal statements came in and they were positive. The only written commentary came very late. It’s demands based largely on obvious misunderstandings, which can easily be explained. Norges Fjorhestlag, the organization of the Mother country asked from the very beginning for a later dead line, as they signaled a positive position against the Handbook, but also wished to compare the contents of the Handbook carefully with the existing Norwegian Breeding Plan in order to coordinate both documents. They named an internal commission with their speaker Helene Indrebø and promised the final agreement to the Handbook for end of October 2002. This NFL commission met several times during the summer.
The October meeting of the Judges Commission.
The agenda of the October meeting had the one main figure ‘Adaptation of respective demands from NFL into the Handbook’ under the aspects of mutual agreement.
Already in January 2002 the number of the participants of the commission meeting was increased with the two representatives from Norsk Hestesenter. Reaching the intersection ‘Presentation of the first print’ in May Arne Presthus had drawn back from the commission work. So newly Helen Indrebø is representing NFL. Facing the high importance of the work of this planned meeting, an invitation was sent to Magne Hus, the leader of Norges Fjordhestlag, to take part as well. The commission was very happy that he agreed to come.
So the participants were;
Magne Hus, leader of Norges Fjordhestlag
Helene Indrebø, NFL
Tore Kvam, Norsk Hestesenter
Susan Hellum, Norsk Hestesenter
Flemming Strange- Hansen, Denmark
Eike Schoen- Petersen, Germany
Wayne G. Hipsley, NFHR USA
Oda Muench-Bronk, FHI- Vice President, Switzerland
The meeting took place in the usual atmosphere of mutual openness and the will to find agreements, an attitude for what the commission by the time is proud of. Once more the main chapters were carefully worked through, questioned contents were explained and new considerations discussed. As Magne Hus and Helene Indrebø had expressed the readiness of Norges Fjordhestlag to revise the contents of the Norwegian Breeding plan into the direction of the proposed more exact ‘Description of the Breed’ and the ‘Breeding Goal’ the discussion of both figures took most of the two and a half day of work. The results of this hard work are, beside some more of slightly less importance, two documents both parties could fully agree with. Magne Hus promised to recommend to the board of Norges Fjordhestlag to accept the contents of the Handbook in the agreed version of this meeting and to adopt especially the ‘Breeding Goal’ and ‘The Description of the Breed’ into the revision of the Norwegian Breeding plan.
To the great satisfaction of all members of the Judges Commission Norges Fjordhestlag accepted the Handbook on their board meeting of Oct 25th 2002.
On personal request of Magne Hus the proposed date of the signature of the Handbook by the international breeding organizations will be changed from March 2003 at Equitana in Essen/ Germany to May 2003 in Norway, with this underlining the importance of a milepost in the history of Fjord Horse Breeding.
The ongoing work
The commission has some editorial work left. The original English version and the Norwegian translation need first to be finished. Then official translations into German, French, Danish and Nederlands will be made in order to avoid incorrect personal interpretations and involuntary misunderstandings. At least parts of the commission will meet another time on occasion of Equitana 03 for a final check of the Handbook.
