Norges Fjordhestlag
The Norwegian Fjordhorse Associations most important duty is to unite all those interested in the breed and to encourage them to work for the common good. The Society was founded in 1949 and is divided into county, district and local groups. Originally breeders organised their own interest groups locally, the earliest being founded in 1899. Today NFHL has about 2000 members and publishes a magazine, which comes out 6 times a year. The Norwegian Fjordhorse Association has several sister organisations in other countries. There are Fjordhorse Societies in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland, the U.S.A. and in Great Britain.

Norsk Hestesenter
The NHS is the main co-ordinator between the Ministry of Agriculture and the different breed societies, on all equine subjects from breeding (there is a breeding advisor) to the education of instructors. NHS was founded in 1985 and is made up of 17 different organisations one of which is The Norwegian Fjordhorse Association. The Foundation is situated some 50 km south of Lillehammer. The Fjordhorse Register and Studbook is administered by the NHS which is also responsible for the Studbooks of the other two native breeds. The NHS is responsible for the breeding plans of all the different breed societies. Much of the practical work with the Fjordhorse is carried out by the Norwegian Fjordhorse centre, a subdivision of NHS.

Norsk Fjordhestsenter
The Norwegian Fjordhorse Centre has been a subdivision of NHS since 1989. The Centres duty is to promote the Fjordhorse for tourism and export. Since 1994 the Centre has carried out a project for performance testing 5-year-old Fjord stallions. An approved performance test must be taken before a stallion can further licensed. The test lasts 6 weeks and encompasses riding, driving, loose jumping as well as a veterinary examination.
